Измина още една година, през която не излезе StarCraft II. При тези обстоятелства има смисъл да се обсъжда коя игра ще спечели престижната титла за 2009 година. През нея се появиха много качествени заглавия, които пренебрегнах. Игри като F.E.A.R. 2 и Braid не изиграх поради липса на време, Aion и мега хитът Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, който направи повече пари от филма Avatar, не погледнах защото жанрът им е загубена кауза, рок ориентираната игра на гениалният Tim Schafer - Brütal Legend пък не излезе за PC. Дори родната Tropico 3 не се класира в списъка ми. Последната на този етап сякаш е най-успешната българска игра. И така кои са кандидатите за титлата тази година...

   Right now I do not have the time to write new articles and I know that there is a throng of readers out there who eagerly await my majestic writings so I decided to be gracious and draw your attention to an old series of articles, namely 'The History of Real Time Strategy Games'. This was written about two years ago and was a project by a guy known by the nickname Phantom for the Gamereplays.org website. Many people took part in it everyone writing articles about different games. Yours truly is responsible for the articles about WarCraft II and WarCraft III. I am really proud with my participation in this project. I am filled with pride by the very notion that I was and still am a part of the 'growing tech-savvy group calling themselves 'gamers'' that changed the world of entertainment and art in the 90s. Some people still try to downplay the importance of computer and video games, electronic sports and the cultural impact they bring but this group is slowly dying of old age.    Мислихте, че съм забравил за най-важната награда в света на игрите, а именно "Игра на годината според Stilgar" само защото февруари мина, а още няма награден? За другия път да знаете – Stilgar забавя, но не забравя!

   Предварително искам да предупредя, че за разлика от играта на годината за 2007 тази година победителят не е толкова убедителен. Първата причина е, че тази година играх значително по-малко игри и пропуснах такива силни кандидати за наградата като Fallout 3. Втората причина е, че за разлика от Portal победителят тази година не може се хареса на всеки. Не си играл Portal – преебал си се! Играл си Portal и не ти е харесал? Или го казваш за да ме дразниш или си тъп, точка!

   Въпреки че ме вбесиха наградата отново се присъжда на игра на Valve, а именно Left 4 Dead. Изискванията на играта са сравнително високи. Освен да имаш приличен компютър се налага да харесваш first person shooter игрите, да обичаш да са напрегнати, да са отборни (и то истински отборни, а не масак тип публичен Counter-Strike сървър) и разбира се най-важното – да се кефиш на зомбита (по-точно да се кефиш да ги отстрелваш). От друга страна просто не знам как си разбрал, че не обичаш изброените неща ако не си играл Left 4 Dead...

   I was browsing the Steam Store today with the intent to buy Left 4 Dead. However the price seemed a bit high. At 45€ I had better buy the retail version which costs only 70 leva (about 36€) in Bulgaria. After asking around it seems that there is no way to revert back to USD. I was furious so I submitted the following support ticket:

   Hello,

   It seems like the option to revert back to US currency is missing. Will you please manually revert my account to USD as it was before. Also I hope that you will able to fix this BUG soon because as it seems other people ( http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=770231 ) cannot find the option either. I am absolutely sure that it is just a software BUG that you are not aware of and Valve did not mean to insult the European players' intelligence. I have been a loyal Valve and Steam customer for years. I like buying my games online but if Steam games are going to stay 30% more expensive than their retail versions I will have to go back to buying useless boxes from retailers. Another good workaround until you fix the BUG will be to ask my friends living in the USA to buy me games as a gift.

   Also if you do not fix this BUG I will probably change my opionion about your great customer service and may stop buying every game that Valve releases. What is more I am not looking at third party products but at Valve's own Left4Dead and I am comparing the prices with the retail prices here in Bulgaria in the European Union.

   To sum up my question: WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU THINKING?

   It seems that a lot of people are pissed off. This 120+ pages thread on the Steam forums proves it as does this 8000+ steam group. If Valve do not fix this after the holidays I am going to file a complaint to the European Commission as suggested in the thread.
